Sorry to have not updated in so long, things have been a bit crazy, but Ma-tsu did indeed shed back on the 28th of January and there's still no sign of eggs. Which for other reasons may be for the best, but is still very disappointing. I'm really doubting now that she is gravid, though it is extremely hard to tell right now. But she's very active and wants to come out to play again, so I'm thinking it's unlikely. We're hoping to move later this year, and maybe it will be easier this way. We also need to take a short trip in April, so it may be for the best that she hasn't laid. I was thinking of trying them again after the trip, but it may be the most practical to wait till next season. Sigh. I really cannot wait to expand so we can have more than just one pair going at a time. All in good time, huh? This may be a blessing in disguise as things are so chaotic and Blue Gorgon is still getting built up, both site and snake wise.

In happier news, lots more shirt styles and colors in the Blue Gorgon shop! As well as more totem items! Check it out!

Also, lots more plans for the site including photo galleries, an FAQ, and perhaps a page specifically about snakes in myth. Open to more suggestions there too! Soon as I get more beauty photos organized, I'll post them over here too.

Ma-tsu update!

No, she hasn't shed yet, and is being very lazy just wanting to lounge in her hide all day. I didn't think anything of it till today while I was misting her she turned and started drinking the mist-dew off her own scales! O_o Okay, that is too lazy. The water dish is *right there*. So I pet her then urge her over to the water. She was very "Ugggh... I don't wanna... oh, alright..." before taking a nice long drink, and remembering that her humid hide exists and climbing in. That's much better, she always sheds better and sooner when she uses her humid hide. But good lord, come out for a drink once in a while sweetie! Yeash!

I have a bunch of pics I need to resize, get the Blue Gorgon photo gallery together, but things have been crazy and I haven't quite gotten it all sorted yet. But this icon is a bit of a preview of recent pics. ;) That's Neptune there, being all cute and squished. He's been insistent upon being adorable lately. I'm sure not complaining!

I had one of those little intuitive flashes this morning where I suddenly got the strongest feeling that there will be 6 eggs and/or hatchlings. I'm very curious to see how close I am, since I didn't have any luck feeling the follicles on Ma-tsu (I really need to practice that and get the hang of it). So we shall see! The countdown continues.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love these snakes? Because man... <3 <3 <3

Ma-tsu and Neptune have been placed together for the next few months for breeding purposes. So far? Lots of flirting, then Neptune took a giant poo. I cleaned it up, put em back, then Ma-tsu pooed. Repeated process. They spent the next day in their respective hides across the tank from each other. Today, Ma-tsu has climbed into Neptune's hide and proceeds to sit on his head. I can only assume he's into that sort of thing, as they've bred together before. No sighted lock-ups so far. I'll keep you guys posted. :)

Wish them luck!

Scheming dreams to blow both their minds

All the snakes are getting ready to shed, I think! Neptune & Ma-tsu are blueing, Gomez is pink bellied, Falkor is hiding as opposed to being a hyper spaz, and Irwin... well, I dunno about Irwin. I hope he sheds soon too, I want to see what his little bitty shed is like! It's funny how all the snakes seem to sinc up their sheds. They're so pitiful like this though. I look forward to snakey pms being over.

Speaking of snakes, I've fallen in love with the mojave ball pythons... and I would *love* to invest in a pair someday. So velvety, and what contrast... and not only that, but it's possible to produce blue eyed leucistics out of them!! And do I want a blue eyed leucy? Pure white snake with lilac head and blue eyes? Oh yes... you'd better believe I do. Freaking GORGEOUS pythons. I know there's lots of leucistic colubrids available, but... the BP just blows my mind. That's the leucy that I want. And the only way that's ever going to happen is to produce them myself. Which is fine by me! Especially as I love the mojaves in their own right. Just stunning.

So yeah... Blue Gorgon plans thus far: VBBs and lots of em, obviously! Possibly Caulker Cay boas, and Mojave/het ball pythons and maybe some leucys if I'm lucky.. I'm debating now on the axanthic (black and white) I was planning on for Gomez, because I actually like the mojaves better and they're around the same price range. Maybe our Tish will be a mojave instead? Especially as Caulker Cays are pretty much naturally axanthic so I'll be getting my black/white/grey fetish in that way... Hmmm.

Course, still planning on the gopher snake, but no plans to breed there... so far. ;) No plans to breed Falkor or obviously Irwin (can't sell native wildlife in Oregon anyway, and rubber boas are native. Can own em, just not sell them). Blue Gorgon will always be about VBBs, but a lot of sites that specialize do carry other species aside from their specialty too.

*babbles on* I plan so far ahead in the future it's scary... but fun. Plotting snakey endeavors makes me happy. I'm so going to be a crazy snake lady... if I'm not already. There was lots to fall in love with at the expo. The white lipped python... preeeetty.... if I came across a super tame captive bred one... and the sunbeams were amazing, but wild caught and cranky/musky. Burrowing snakes not so much for me, I like the paper substrate too much. Maybe we will do a bearded dragon someday... we'll see. ;) Still not thrilled about needing to keep feeder bugs... For now, all new herps will be in art form or baby VBBs.

Speaking of art... New Medusa idea... Anaconda Medusa Ixchel. Man, I have a lot of artwork to catch up on.

Breeding Goals

I've been thinking about my breeding goals, as there aren't really different VBB morphs or anything to shoot for, they're all just gorgeous and that's a given. But... what about breeding for docility? VBBs have a reputation as nervous snakes, but our Ma-tsu is unbelievably tame. She doesn't even really strike at her prey, just gently takes it out of the tongs all lady-like... even though she was fed live under her previous owner. She never inflates or gets hissy or nippy, and I trust her even around my face and just walking around the home. A home filled with bunnies and birds, no less! I know it can be as much nurture as nature, but different dog breeds, bunnies, birds, horses, just about any domestic animal you can think of was bred down for not only coloration and size... but temperament. I think I've found my goal.

When choosing which hatchlings to hold back, and which new breeding stock to acquire, I'm going to be looking for not only healthy feeding responses and coloration... but calm demeanor too. Snakes like Ma-tsu for a line of particularly docile but healthy VBBs. I'm excited, and the path these snakes are taking me down really feels right. Every animal that's come into my life has had an impact one way or another, but none quite the same way my Blue Beauties have.
